To Live in Love
Therese of Lisieux
What it looks like for children:
Helping our families to share love and share the beauty in our world
St Thérèse had a loving family and she was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. They lived each day with love and they taught St Thérèse to look at the beauty in the world. Because she was loved she felt she was precious to God, as God loves us too. One day when she was with her father she saw the letter T shaped in the sky by stars and she thought her name was written in heaven.
Serving others through humility
Jesus began life with a humble birth in a stable in the village of Bethlehem. He was raised in a humble little town called Nazareth. He owned no home, acquired few possessions. He was humble, as St Thérèse was humble. He put others before himself and said the greatest among us are here to serve others. Humble people think of others more and do not think they are more important.
Humility is putting others ahead of yourself. It has been said that a humble person doesn’t think less of themself; they simply think of themself less.
St Thérèse said: “the humbler you are, the happier you will be.”
Individuality – knowing we are Unique
St Thérèse said in the garden of Jesus there are lots of different flowers, all unique. Each has its own beauty. That’s how God made us all different and unique – we have to be happy with who we are and use our unique talents to love others.
Pick me a flower from above, send it with a message of God’s love – this is in our school song – each of us is a precious flower with God’s message to share love.
Prayer
St Thérèse lived her life praying to God so she could become closer to Him. St Thérèse showed us that sometimes our prayers aren’t words, it’s just spending time with God. St Thérèse said: “I’m praying , I’m saying nothing to him, I’m just loving him.
Knowing Jesus
To love Jesus better we need to get to know him. St Thérèse spent her life looking at the life of Jesus. This is why we spend time in school listening to the stories about Jesus so we can understand his actions and what he wants us to do. Our song says, “We are precious in His Eyes” – we are precious to God. and he is precious to us – that’s why we want to know Him.
St. Thérèse said: “Look at Jesus in his face, there you will see how much he loves us.”
Giving to others
Our mission is to live in love – love isn’t just a word, it’s an action. We show love through our actions. We try to show love by being kind to others and giving love – we can give love by giving our time, in our words, acts of service, our talents.
We follow the words of St Thérèse by living her little way by showing love to God, to others and our self.
May I live your little way each and every day
