Class Teacher – Mrs Mannion
Welcome to Year 2
A very warm welcome to Year 2. This year, we have lots of exciting learning
opportunities to look forward to that make our learning journey irresistible. In Year 2,
we always try to give 100% in everything that we do to be the best that we can
possibly be. To do this, we are following the secrets to success which are to
improve, push ourselves, try new things, never give up, understand others,
concentrate and imagine within all that we do. Now that we have transitioned from
Year 1 to Year 2, we are striving to become independent learners. In our class, we
face new challenges confidently and with a smile and although we are on our own
individual learning journey, we help and support each other along the way. Most
importantly, we want you to have lots of fun!
See the downloads below to access our curriculum overview for Year 2.
Homework & Reading
In Key Stage 1, we send home a half termly ‘Homework Menu’ which is linked to our
learning project. It is up to you and your child how many tasks you wish to complete; maybe you want to do one in detail (as a large main course), or try a few if you’ve got a big appetite for homework (starters and dessert!). They can be handed in as and when you complete them over the course of the half term. They will be shared with the class and displayed as part of our learning project.
Listening to stories with your child and regular support with their reading book is very
important, thank you for your continued support. The children will be sent home a
new book every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so please make sure they are
returned to school on these days. If the children would like extra reading or to borrow
a book from our class library in between they are more than welcome to.
Please see folder below in ‘downloads’ for ‘Tips for Supporting Your Child with Reading at Home’.
On a Friday there will also be a piece of homework to be completed and returned by
the following Wednesday, which may include a piece of English and Maths to
consolidate what the children have learnt in school that week.
Pupils will be given weekly spellings to practise on a Friday and they will be tested
on the following Friday. The website can be found here.
Please see homework book for log in details.
Year Group Expectations
Year Group Expectations provide information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for children in our school. The National Curriculum outlines these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child must meet in order to ensure continued progress. The year group expectations can be found here
Equipment for Year 2
Pupils will need…
Book bag with reading book and reading diary on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
A clean, freshly filled water bottle. A small wipeable pencil case with basic stationery which can be identified as their own.
We will be having PE on Wednesdays. Children will be required to come to school wearing their full PE kit. See uniform requirements for further details.
